Project Details:
- The National Travel Behaviour Change Project involves Queensland, Victoria, South Australia and the Australian Capital Territory as well as the Australian Government, and aims to reduce impacts of car use.
- This will be achieved by utilising a variety of measures to facilitate a voluntary change in behaviour towards more sustainable modes of travel such as walking, cycling, public transport and ride-sharing.
- Project activities primarily focus on metropolitan areas and a small number of regional centers, with particular focus on work places, communities and households, schools and major destinations such as shopping centres and hospitals.
- A national coordinator undertakes national initiatives in communication, evaluation, monitoring and review processes, best practice tools, award events and national conferences, and assists in coordinating the programme.
GGAP Funding: Up to $6.4 million was approved under the GGAP.
Total Project Cost: Approximately $18.3 million.
Expected Greenhouse Gas Abatement: Up to 1.23 million tonnes of carbon dioxide equivalent over the period 2008-2012, at the time the project was approved.
Note: Carbon dioxide equivalent (CO2-e) is the basis for comparing the warming effect of a greenhouse gas as compared to carbon dioxide and is calculated by multiplying the mass of a greenhouse gas by its global warming potential.
