Australian Prudential Regulation Authority

This policy covers the office based operations of the Australian Prudential Regulation Authority (APRA) in Sydney, Melbourne, Canberra, Brisbane, Adelaide and Perth.

APRA is committed to managing environmental matters and will do so by:

identifying, implementing and promoting a best practice Environmental Management System (EMS)
committing to operating in an ecologically sustainable manner by reducing waste and the use of energy and resources
complying with relevant Commonwealth and State environment legislation and with the Commonwealth Government's environmental policies and initiatives
providing an environmentally sound workplace, and implement environmentally sound work practices
working closely with its employees, contractors, and suppliers to develop and implement agreed environmental initiatives

APRA currently minimises the use of non-renewable resources. A significant means by which this is achieved is through using recycled paper products for all work activities, purchasing energy saving devices and purchasing energy efficient office equipment.

APRA will work towards developing an Environmental Management System (EMS) during 2003 by liaising with and sharing knowledge with like agencies. An EMS is a structured tool for measuring and continually improving the performance of an organisation in maintaining its regulatory compliance and managing its environmental risks.

In the meantime we will increase awareness among staff and managers of the need to minimise waste by first rethinking, reducing, reusing, repairing and recycling.
