- In the language of ISO14001, an environmental aspect is a part of an organisation's operations that interacts with the environment. Through the process of developing an ISO14001-consistent EMS, these aspects are identified and then put through a risk assessment procedure to determine those that are significant. These "significant aspects" are then the focus of performance improvement efforts, including the setting of objectives and targets, and the monitoring of performance against those targets.
