Indicator: A-42 Greenhouse - carbon dioxide equivalent emissions by sector
Data
Trends in carbon dioxide equivalent emissions and removals by sector 1990-2004
Source: Australian Greenhouse Office 2006, National Greenhouse Gas Inventory 2004: Accounting for the 108% Target, Department of Environment and Heritage, Canberra.
What the data mean
The data shows that the stationery energy, agriculture and transport are the major contributors to Australia’s net greenhouse emissions. Land use, land use change and forestry were major contributors to net emissions during the first half of the 1990s but this contribution has decreased in absolute and relative terms.
Data Limitations
Nil known.
Issues for which this is an indicator and why
Atmosphere — Climate variability and change - Greenhouse
This indicator shows the relative contribution of the various sectors to Australia’s net emissions and therefore, which of the sectors are the major drivers in our level of net greenhouse emissions.
