Issue: Contributions and pressures between the land and the ocean - Condition of species at the land-ocean interface

This is an issue under the Land theme of the Data Reporting System.

Why we need to know about this issue

The ocean contributes inputs from marine species and climate moderation to these interface habitats. Changes in conditions, including water quality, water temperature, water salinity and species present (or absent), in marine waters systems, can place pressure on coastal and marine species, habitats and ecosystems. It can place pressure on the land and terrestrial species during sea surge events, or in the event of rising sea levels or changing currents.

Changes species living at the land-ocean interface (eg beaches, reefs, headlands) may be sentinel indicators of changes in these pressures.
