Why we need to know about this issue
Human settlements are sustained through a number of services that are received from the environment. These services provide the resource inputs to human settlements and may be degraded on by wastes and emissions generated by them.
These services include fish and ocean products.

A considerable proportion of the food consumed in human settlements in Australia derives from the oceans, via fishing. - CO-08 National tonnage and value of aquaculture production
A proportion of the food fish consumed in human settlements in Australia derives from aquaculture.
