Why we need to know about this issue
Human settlements are sustained through a number of services that are received from the environment. These services provide the resource inputs to human settlements and ma be degraded on by wastes and emissions generated by them.
These services include a range of medicines and other useful compounds derived from biological sources.

A proportion of the food fish consumed in human settlements in Australia derives from aquaculture. - LD-10 Number of compounds from terrestrial sources at some stage of commercial development
Biological compounds derived from terrestrial sources are important contributions to the health and welfare of human settlements.
