Supervising Scientist research profiles
Alison Frostick – BSc (Hons), MSc, CBiol MSB, MRACI CChem
Background
Ms Alison Frostick is Assistant Director, Technical of the Supervision, Assessment and Policy Unit of OSS. She has 12 years experience in environmental assessment and management of water quality issues in the UK and Australia. Her current PhD degree research has focussed on geochemical and radiochemical analysis of sediments to assess successful rehabilitation of mine sites with respect to erosion, provide information on the fate of contaminants dispersed from mine sites and defined baseline conditions against which impacts of future and present mines can be assessed.
Areas of expertise and research interests
- Surface and ground water quality issues associated with mining operations;
- Establishing monitoring programs for chemical and biological assessment of water quality to identify point and diffuse pollution sources;
- Water and sediment quality components of environmental impact assessments;
- Developing water quality closure criteria for mining operations;
- Characterisation of waste rock and mine tailings to develop effective decommissioning and rehabilitation strategies.
