The Supervising Scientist publishes the results of environmental monitoring and research by staff and external authors into the impact of uranium mining on the environment and people of the Alligator Rivers Region of the Northern Territory and research on the sustainable use and environment protection of tropical rivers and their associated wetlands, and also its work on supervision and assessment of uranium mining activities.

The Supervising Scientist comprising the Environmental Research Institute of the Supervising Scientist ( eriss ) and the Office of the Supervising Scientist (OSS), is part of the Australian Government’s Department of the Environment and Water Resources.
