Introduction
Increasingly large and small best practice organisations around the world are investing in, and reaping the rewards of, improved energy efficiency. This is often a result of involvement in government programs but, in addition, an increasing number of organisations are realising that improved energy efficiency makes good economic sense and contributes to competitiveness and longer-term sustainability.
Many organisations are now achieving large energy savings by sizing motors correctly, fitting control devices and managing on site utilities. After the initial payback period, these organisations are achieving re-occurring savings year after year.
Motors Solutions Online includes case studies that clearly demonstrate the benefits of investing in energy efficient industrial electric motor systems:

Energy efficiency and cost savings from motor system analysis
In August 2000 an investigation of motor system energy use in a number of companies was undertaken for Motor Solutions Online. Motor systems were analysed across a range of industry sectors. The specific systems investigated included an air handling system in a biotechnology company, a water pump system in an oil refinery and meat freezers in a hotel.
Overall, the investigation illustrated how motor energy consumption varies depending on the motor, the motor system and the end use. These web pages discuss the findings of the investigation and the opportunities identified for energy and cost savings, as well as providing more general information on motor system analysis.
