Renewable Remote Power Generation Program (RRPGP)
Latest news
The Renewable Remote Power Generation Program has been closed to all new applications.
From Monday 22 June, pre-purchase applications for the Renewable Remote Power Generation Program closed in all states of Australia except Western Australia. The program closed in Western Australia on 17 December 2009.
All pre-purchase applications submitted to the relevant state program administrator prior to these dates will be assessed according to the program guidelines.
Please note this only affects pre-purchase applications. The deadline for rebate applications is provided on your pre-purchase approval letter.
Program achievements
The Renewable Remote Power Generation Program has seen a significant increase in applications due to a dramatic rise in diesel prices in 2008.
The Renewable Remote Power Generation Program has been supporting remote Australian homes, communities, not-for-profits, businesses, governments and industry since 2001.
Program achievements include:
- $300 million committed to renewable energy generation in remote and regional areas;
- More than 9,000 residential and medium-scale projects up to 20 kilowatts in size, almost half of which were approved in the last 18 months;
- Residential and medium-scale projects plus renewable energy water pumps with a total power capacity of more than 10,600 kilowatts of solar, wind and micro-hydro which are estimated to save more than 24 million litres of diesel fuel each year;
- Supporting 31 major projects with $52 million in funding, saving more than seven million litres of diesel fuel each year as well as other fossil fuels;
- The installation of more than 170 renewable generation systems for Indigenous communities;
- More than 1,100 applications in the pipeline, representing around six months work for industry; and
- Support for industry training, accreditation, inspections, testing and standards development.

What is RRPGP?
The Renewable Remote Power Generation Program provided financial support to increase the use of renewable generation in remote parts of Australia that rely on diesel and other fossil fuels for electricity supply.
RRPGP had two operational sub-programs:
- The Residential and Medium-scale (RM) sub-program rebates for households, communities, not-for-profit, business, government and other organisation, in areas which are not close to the electricity grid; and
- The Renewable Energy Water Pumping (REWP) sub-program rebates for business, government and other incorporated organisation to support the installation of renewable energy water pumping systems in areas which are not close to the electricity grid.
