Memorandum of Understanding with the Indian Government

On 21 September 2015, responsibility for water policy and resources was transferred to the Department of Agriculture and Water Resources - Administrative Arrangement Order made on 21 September 2015.

This website will be updated to reflect these changes.

A Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between the Indian and Australian governments regarding cooperation in the field of water resource management was signed in New Delhi on 10 November 2009. The MOU provides a vehicle for sharing policy and technical experiences in the field of water resource management.

Implementation of the MOU is overseen by the Indian-Australian Joint Working Group on Water Resource Management (JWG). The group comprises federal water officials from both countries and is jointly led by the Indian Ministry of Water Resources and the Australian Department of the Environment.

In November 2010, JWG members agreed to an action plan under the MOU to exchange expertise in respect to integrated water resource management and planning, water entitlement and trading systems and irrigation efficiency.
