Progress towards meeting environmental needs under the Basin Plan

The Murray-Darling Basin Authority's Basin Plan proposes a 2750GL reduction in surface water diversions to provide additional water for the environment. The following links show progress in environmental water recovery in relation to the proposal set out in the Basin Plan.

Total water recovery progress against the 2750GL reduction:

Water Recovery Progress - 31 July 2014 (PDF - 94.43 KB)
Water Recovery Progress - 31 July 2014 (XLSX - 435.14 KB)

This includes water entitlements secured under the 'Sustainable Rural Water Use and Infrastructure' (SRWUIP) program, including water gifted to the Commonwealth by the Queensland Government, and State government recoveries. The SRWUIP program now includes the 'Restoring the Balance in the Murray-Darling Basin’ program.

A more detailed breakdown of the water recovered through infrastructure projects and other recoveries that may be beyond 'bridging the gap' requirements is provided here:

Total Water Recovered by the Commonwealth - 31 July 2014 (PDF - 53.77 KB)
Total Water Recovered by the Commonwealth - 31 July 2014 (XLSX - 422.3 KB)

This includes water entitlements secured under the 'Sustainable Rural Water Use and Infrastructure' program to 31 May 2014, including the 'Restoring the Balance in the Murray-Darling Basin' program, and water gifted to the Commonwealth by the Queensland Government.

Note:  SRWUIP water recovery is reported at the point at which water savings have been received, estimated or agreed in signed project works contracts. Until water transfer contracts have been exchanged however, these figures may be subject to change over time.
