Kalgoorlie - Boulder, WA

Total funding: Total project cost of $4.3 million, with funding of $2.15 million from the Australian Government under the National Water Security Plan for Cities and Towns and the remaining funding provided by Western Australia Water Corporation.

About the project

As water use in the region is high, Western Australia Water Corporation is installing advanced metering infrastructure in Kalgoorlie-Boulder. This will enable smart metering capability to be combined with active leak detection and repair program to assist in the reduction of system losses and private leakage on residential properties. The primary objective of this project is to reduce potable water through the installation of meters at approximately 13,000 properties.

Project benefits

This project will:

  • reduce potable water supplied by approximately 850 million litres each year
  • provide more frequent accounts for customers and allow monitoring of daily water use
  • provide rapid response to customer requested meter reads, and
  • improve backflow prevention.

The project commenced on 19 August 2010 and is scheduled for completion by 30 June 2012.
