On 21 September 2015, responsibility for water policy and resources was transferred to the Department of Agriculture and Water Resources - Administrative Arrangement Order made on 21 September 2015.

About the project

Commonwealth funding has assisted local councils with the capital costs of upgrading 59 community wastewater management systems in South Australia. It is anticipated that up to 8,843 ML per annum of recycled water will be made available as a result of the project.

Project benefits

The project has:

  • addressed groundwater and surface water contamination and other environmental impacts of ageing community wastewater management systems
  • supplemented existing water supplies through increased recycling of treated wastewater
  • improved the environmental, operational and financial sustainability of community wastewater management systems.

Progress

All the wastewater system upgrades are complete except Robe.
