A Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between the Indian and Australian governments regarding cooperation in the field of water resource management was signed in New Delhi on 10 November 2009. The MOU provides a vehicle for sharing policy and technical experiences in the field of water resource management.
Implementation of the MOU is overseen by the Indian-Australian Joint Working Group on Water Resource Management (JWG). The group comprises federal water officials from both countries and is jointly led by the Indian Ministry of Water Resources and the Australian Department of Sustainability, Environment, Water, Population and Communities.
In November 2010, JWG members agreed to an action plan under the MOU to exchange expertise in respect to integrated water resource management and planning, water entitlement and trading systems and irrigation efficiency.
