Bathurst Regional Council
About the project
Bathurst Regional Council will review existing plans to develop a Climate Change and Water Security Plan. The plan will look at ways to ensure that Council's water operations, infrastructure and community water requirements are considered in a coordinated manner to meet the long-term sustainability of the region. The Council will:
- review existing Council plans and strategies;
- undertake a review of likely climate change impacts;
- identify and quantify possible water savings;
- develop detailed implementation plans; and
- prepare communication strategies on outcomes and adaptations
The development of a Climate Change and Water Security Plan which considers the likely effects of climate change in the Bathurst Region will ensure Council is best placed to maximise water security for the region into the future.
This project was completed in April 2012 and resulted in the Bathurst Regional Council's Climate Change and Water Security Plan. This Plan considers Council's water, sewer and stormwater management along with likely climate change impacts and identifies priorities to ensure the long term water security of the Bathurst Region. The Plan is based on sound hydrology and also takes into account the range of social, economic, legislative and environmental factors which must be considered by Council as it plans for future service provision.
