Berri Stormwater Recycling Scheme

Berri Barmera Council

Funding:$891,160

About the project

This project will reduce the quantity of River Murray water used for the irrigation of public open space by 70 ML per year, through the substitution of River Murray water with recycled water. This will be achieved through the establishment/upgrade of a system to enable the transfer of harvested stormwater between retention pond sites to maximise yields and usage efficiency as demand and the rain fall events dictate.

Project benefits

The works will enable the harvested stormwater to be stored and mixed with treated effluent from Council's Waste Water Reuse Scheme if the need arises which will result in 100% of this resource being committed for re-use. Total recycled water use will increase from 51ML per year (CWMS (Community Wastewater Management Scheme) effluent reuse only) to 121 ML per year (stormwater and CWMS reuse).
