About the project
The Hillston Emergency Town Water Supply Augmentation aims to:
- respond to the fall in groundwater aquifer supplying Hillston;
- maintain security of town water supply; and
- reduce demand for water through a household demand management program.
These goals are to be achieved through four project components; drill, develop and commission a new town water supply bore deeper into the Lachlan aquifer and reduce the demand for potable water by subsidising the replacements of shower heads and toilet cisterns and pans.
Project benefits
The benefits of this project are:
- maintaining the town water supply to support 1,200 population of Hillston;
- increase overall water security; and
- reduced demand for water through the replacement of inefficient shower heads and toilet cisterns and pans to 300 residences saving approximately 21 ML per year.
