About the project
The project aims to secure water access for sporting reserves within Central Goldfields Shire. The Council will determine the status of existing arrangements for the twelve sporting grounds and reserves in the Central Goldfields Shire and investigate if better water solutions are available in terms of reliable yield and cost effectiveness.
Project benefits
In recent drought times, many sporting grounds and reserves have had reduced water available for irrigation resulting in a negative impact on local communities. The proposed plan to be prepared for each of the identified grounds will allow the best water supply or water saving option to be identified for potential future implementation. Each plan will ideally minimise the effect that climate change may have on the ability for ground managers to provide good playing surfaces at these sporting reserves, thus allowing their continued availability for community use.
Project completion
This project was completed in August 2010 and resulted in the development of the 'Drought Proofing Sporting Reserves within the Central Goldfields Shire Plan'. This Plan determined the status of the existing arrangement for the 12 sporting grounds and reserves in the region and has successfully investigation and articulated better water solutions in terms of reliable yield and cost effectiveness.
