Water Security for a carbon conscious community
Gannawarra Shire Council
Funding: $200,000
About the project
This project will allow the Gannawarra Shire to examine the impacts of climate change that may affect its ability to maintain community facilities, particularly given recent trends towards the sale of permanent water entitlements, population movement and the declining dairy and agricultural industries.
Project benefits
The project will allow Gannawarra Shire Council to prepare and develop plans and strategies to assist the community to adapt to climate change impacts. This will ensure that the region has the financial, economic and recreational security to support the community in a low water availability climate.
Project completion
This project was completed in June 2011 and resulted in the following documents being produced.
- Long term financial Plan
- Drainage Condition Assessment
- Recreation Facilities Condition Assessment
- Gannawarra 2025 Final Plan
- Recreation Asset Management Plan
- Drainage Asset Management Plan
- Final Report
During the delivery of this project the Gannawarra Shire was heavily impacted by the 2011 Victorian floods. These floods reinforced the importance of the development of these plans to ensure Council is as prepared as possible to provide financially sustainable services in a future with less water.
