A Future Without Water Entitlements: Effects on a Changing Climate on Farming Communities in the Greater Shepparton Area
Greater Shepparton City Council
Funding: $190,000
About the project
Greater Shepparton City Council's project will explore the social and economic consequences of a reduction or cessation of irrigation across the Greater Shepparton area.
Project benefits
The project will occur in several stages:
- establishment of a panel of stakeholders in the process of withdrawal of irrigation from the Greater Shepparton area;
- develop a scoping document for the project, and tender for a suitably qualified consultant to carry out the project;
- work with the Consultant to engage with the communities selected as 'case studies' and draft the A future without water entitlements: Effects of a changing climate on farming communities in the Greater Shepparton area report; and
- Greater Shepparton City Council will use the issues and recommendations from the above mentioned report to devise a strategy around reducing irrigation to minimise undesirable outcomes.
