About the project
The project will enable the utilisation of water from the sewerage treatment plant in a dual reticulation system for unrestricted use on gardens/lawns and other public areas, thereby reducing annual demand on water resources.
The project involves an extension of the rising main, a new reservoir, alterations to the pumps, mains, controls and shed. Specific measures include:
- 1.2 km extension of existing rising main;
- 1.5 km extension of existing reticulation main;
- new 0.6ML reservoir for potable water;
- construction of raw water pumping station;
- control System; and
- checking integrity of dual system, cross contamination, backflow etc.
Project benefits
Introducing a re-use water scheme in the township of Murray Downs will reduce the consumption of potable water for outside use. It will better utilise a precious resource, particularly with the anticipated future expansion of the estate area. Murray Downs currently has a dual water supply system that is charged by potable water for both systems- including outside activities i.e. lawns, gardens and car washing. With the introduction of re-use water into the dual water supply, incorporating re-use water for the outside activities, consumption rates on potable water will be substantially reduced and water savings achieved.
