About the project
Wentworth Shire Council is the lead recipient for a consortium of Council's covering the regions of Wentworth, Balranald and Hay.
The project will assist three local governments in the western Murray region of NSW to plan for a future with reduced water. This project will include an assessment of the current status of the region, and how it has been shaped by changes in water availability and water policy.
Project benefits
This project will:
- provide robust and insightful assessment of the Council's vulnerability to current and anticipated future changes in water security and that of their communities and economy;
- assist in the development of plans to capitalise on water resources that will be available;
- develop an economy and communities that will be sustainable with the quantity, quality and cost of water available to them; and
- position participating Councils with prioritised options for investment in water savings infrastructure.
Project completion
This project was completed in September 2012 and resulted in the following documentation:
- Socio-economic, rural land use and water studies and synthesis report;
- Community Development Plans;
- Economic Development Plans;
- Investment Attraction Plan;
- Financial Viability Assessments; and
- Growing Water Supply project for Wentworth Shire.
