Total funding: : Total project cost of $3.9 million, with funding of $1.95 million from the Australian Government under the National Water Security Plan for Cities and Towns and the remaining funding provided by the Western Australia Water Corporation.
About the project
The Kalbarri Waste Water Treatment Plant Upgrade will expand water recycling from the existing Kalbarri Wastewater Treatment Plant. It will deliver recycled water to the community and limit the demand on existing groundwater resources for non-potable uses.
Project benefits
This project will:
- reduce potable water use by an estimated 438 million litres each year
- increase water recycling in Kalbarri that will improve water security and allow current groundwater resources to recover and support future expansion of the town
- install two additional aerators and improve performance and operability of existing aerators, and
- provide a chlorine dosing unit to facilitate irrigation of recycled water.
Progress
The project commenced in 2010, and is scheduled for completion in January 2013.
