About the project:
The West Werribee Dual Supply (Aquifer Storage and Recovery) Project (ASR Project) is a standalone component of the West Werribee Dual Water Supply Scheme. The Scheme will supply recycled water for new residential developments and irrigation of public open spaces. The ASR Project involves the development of underground bulk storage in the Werribee Formation Aquifer at the Werribee Treatment Plant and/or at North Wyndham Vale to store the recycled water.
Project benefits/objectives:
- Provide storage for up to 2.6 gigalitres of recycled water per year to supply West Werribee Dual Water Supply Scheme customers.
- To optimise future expansion of the West Werribee Dual Water Supply Scheme salt reduction plant.
- To increase the knowledge of aquifers and aquifer storage and recovery projects in the Melbourne/Werribee Region and their potential as a water resource management.
Project progress:
The project is expected to be completed by June 2015.
