The Hawkesbury Nepean River Recovery Project:
Nutrient Export Monitoring Project Component
Funding: Up to $ 732,552 from the Australian Government.
About the project component
The Hawkesbury Nepean River Recovery Project aims to prevent an estimated 49 tonnes of nutrients entering the river system each year. It is expected that the Nutrient Smart and Water Smart Farms Projects will achieve 95 per cent of this load.
To verify the extent of these reductions, information is needed on the quantity of nutrients moving off farms before and after the implementation of the mitigation measures. Such information is currently lacking, not only for the Hawkesbury Nepean catchment, but also on a national basis.
This Project Component will help to fill this information gap.
Project benefits
This project will seek to:
- quantify the nutrient export of primary industries within the Hawkesbury Nepean catchment
- evaluate the extent of nutrient reductions achieved by the Nutrient Smart Management and Water Smart Farms projects
Water Smart Australia projects are funded by the Australian Government's Water for the Future initiative.
