Latrobe Aquifer Financial Assistance Package
East Gippsland, Victoria
Total funding: Up to $3.6 million from the Australian Government (GST exclusive) and up to $1.4 million from the Victorian Government.
About the project
The Latrobe Aquifer Financial Assistance Package is available to licensed irrigators within the Yarram Water Supply Protection Area (WSPA) or the Stratford Groundwater Management Area (GMA) who have been adversely affected by falling groundwater levels.
Financial assistance is based on a licensed volume formula approach and will assist with costs for replacement of bores, replacing or lowering pumps and increased pumping.
In line with "using water wisely", one of the Government's four priorities for Water for the Future the project also includes a commitment to put in place a groundwater management planning process to manage the Latrobe Aquifer on a long term sustainable basis.
Project benefits
The proposal will advance the National Water Initiative objectives of addressing future adjustment issues and sustainable management of groundwater systems.
Water Smart Australia projects are funded by the Australian Government's framework, Water for the Future.
