Restoration of groundwater aquifer on the Cottesloe Peninsula

Total funding: $2.35 million with a contribution of $782, 000 from the Australian Government and $1.56 million from the Town of Cottesloe.

About the project

The project delivered filtered stormwater to replenish the Cottesloe groundwater aquifer. It involved removing ten stormwater outfalls to the coastal ocean and installation of subsurface stormwater capture and filtration system. Stormwater then replenishes the aquifer through 280 roadside soak pits. In addition to these measures, a public education program was delivered to reduce private groundwater use, decrease the installation of new private bores and reduce stormwater pollutants.
