The Water Efficiency Opportunities program seeks to support and encourage water efficiency within Australia's commercial and industrial sectors.
The commercial and industrial sectors currently consume 15 to 20 per cent of urban water in Australia and have an important role to play in securing water supplies.
Greater water efficiency and use of alternative water supplies by these sectors could take pressure off fresh water supplies in urban areas; resulting in productivity gains, net economic benefits, as well as environmental benefits.
The Water Efficiency Opportunities program's key components include:
- Prime Minister's Water Wise Award - The nation's premier award that recognises significant savings in water use achieved by businesses in the commercial and industrial sectors.
- Grants and rebate schemes for businesses - A portal linking business with funding opportunities.
- Tools for planning water efficiency - A portal for business to access information on planning and implementing water efficiency.
