Restoring the Balance in the Murray-Darling Basin Program
The ecosystems of the Murray-Darling Basin which rely on the water flowing through the Basin's rivers and tributaries are under considerable pressure due to the over-use of water resources for irrigation and other extractive uses. This water purchase program will help the Australian Government tackle the effects of climate change, drought and over-allocation on its rivers and communities. It will also thus play a key part of delivering on the Australian Government's commitment to 'bridge the gap' between current diversion limits and the proposed sustainable diversion limits to be permitted under the Basin Plan.
There are currently no water purchase tenders open under the Restoring the Balance in the Murray-Darling Basin program.
