About the publication
United Nations, Commission on Sustainable Development 12th session (CSD12), focussed on water, sanitation and human settlements themes. The Commission received 'side events' on Landcare and on water resource management, organised by Australia, United States and South Africa.
CSD12's focus provided an unique opportunity to demonstrate and promote voluntary partnerships, embodied by landcare, to implement the World Summit on Sustainable Development's (WSSD) outcomes. Australia's contribution to the meeting demonstrated vast experience in natural resource management. Representatives emphasized that good governance in natural resource management is fundamental to sustainable development and voluntary partnerships are important in implementing WSSD outcomes.
Partnerships such as Landcare were also promoted through CSD12's Partnership Fair. Landcare was also showcased at a CSD12 'side event' on Landcare, Landcare - Sustainable Land and Water Management Through Community Action, organised by Australia, United States and South Africa.
