1. Who can apply for grants under the National Rainwater and Greywater Initiative: Surf Life Saving Clubs?

Australian surf life saving clubs.

2. What will the grants be for?

The following activities are eligible for funding provided they are for use by the surf life saving club on premises owned, leased or permanently occupied by the club:

  1. Installation of new rainwater tanks that are connected to the club premises.

    It is a requirement of tank installation that the tank be plumbed into the club premises for toilet flushing and/or laundry use. Clubs can claim for plumbing, guttering, down pipes, pumps etc provided these are for the new tank.
  2. Water efficient or water saving devices such as water efficient taps, toilets, urinals and showers.

    It is a requirement that showers and urinals have a minimum Water Efficiency Labelling and Standards scheme three star rating and that toilets and taps have a minimum Water Efficiency Labelling and Standards scheme four star rating.
  3. Other water efficiency or water saving measures recommended by a water audit such as smart meters.

    It is a requirement that activities proposed under this category be supported by a water efficiency audit (see Program Guidelines for more information).

3. When can surf life saving clubs apply for a grant?

Applications will be accepted from 1 October 2008 until 31 January 2010, subject to the availability of funds.

4. How can surf life saving clubs apply for a grant?

Surf life saving clubs wishing to apply for a grant to install water saving and water efficient devices should contact Surf Life Saving Australia on (02) 9300 4000 or email watersavings@slsa.asn.au

5. How much will each grant be worth?

The maximum grant will be up to $10,000 (exclusive of GST).

Individual grant amounts will vary according to the cost and eligibility of the projects undertaken.

Successful clubs will receive 50 per cent of funding on approval of the grant. Clubs must finish their project and submit a report with statutory declaration and evidence that the work has been completed within four months. If approved, then the balance of the grant will be paid.

6. What is the role of Surf Life Saving Australia?

Surf Life Saving Australia has been contracted by the Commonwealth to facilitate the delivery of the National Rainwater and Greywater Initiative: Surf Life Saving Clubs program.

Applications are to be submitted to Surf Life Saving Australia who will assess and recommend grants to the Commonwealth Department of the Environment, Water, Heritage and the Arts for approval.

7. Will surf life saving clubs that have previously received government funding for water efficiency projects be eligible to apply?

Yes.

8. Are other community organisations eligible for funding under this program?

No. This election commitment marked the 100th anniversary of surf life saving in Australia and provides an opportunity to promote the benefits of using water wisely at iconic surf life saving clubs throughout Australia.
