About the publication
This social summary of the residents of the Great Artesian Basin (GAB) is based from the 1996 and 2001 Australian Bureau of Statistics Census data and, as such, is not intended to be a detailed demographic study of the management zones into which the GAB is divided. Rather, the report aims to provide an overall picture of Basin residents based on a number of headline variables that are deemed to be relevant to informing current and future policy directions and to aid in better targeting investments towards those outcomes where the return to the public good is optimised.
