About the Agreement

The Lake Eyre Basin Intergovernmental Agreement was signed by relevant Commonwealth, Queensland and South Australian Ministers in October 2000, and later by the Northern Territory government in June 2004. The Agreement provides for the sustainable management of the water and related natural resources associated with the major cross-border river systems within the Lake Eyre Basin to protect dependent ecological, social and economic values.
