About the manual

The manual describes the protocol to be used in the development and testing of the state and territory based riverine bioassessment component of the Monitoring River Health Initiative (MRHI).

This proposed protocol for the MRHI river bioassessment program ad.opts methods applied by Wright et al. (1984), Moss et al. (1987), Marchant et al. (1994) and aspects of protocols developed by Chessman et al. (In review) of Australian Water Technologies and by the Victorian Environment Protection Authority. It allows rapid, non-specialist sampling methods to be used for the development of predictive models for macroinvertebrate communities ,within each state/territory, using a 'reference' site database.
