Improving water quality

Australian Government Department of Sustainability, Environment, Water, Population and Communities, 2012

Stories of progress and success from across Australia

One of the challenges in improving our waterways and catchments is the sharing of knowledge. With many daily and longer term demands, it can be hard to find the time to share useful information and the lessons learned.

The twelve case studies in this book reflect the diversity of our continent. They exemplify what can be done when leadership, teamwork, continuing commitment and appropriate resources come together to support delivery of the National Water Quality Management Strategy (NWQMS). They highlight the importance of embracing the key NWQMS guidelines and taking approaches that are suited to local environments, competencies and circumstances when seeking to improve water quality or ecosystem health.

In selecting and presenting these particular case studies the many other outstanding water quality management initiatives across Australia are acknowledged.
