The Australian Government has granted funding to the towns of Cottesloe and Mosman Park and the Shire of Peppermint Grove for their Grove Library Project.

The project is a joint initiative to develop a library, community learning centre and administration offices in Perth, Western Australia, which incorporate ecologically sustainable design features and technologies.

The Grove Library Project is one of a number of high-profile demonstration projects to be undertaken with funding from the Green Precincts Fund.

Key initiatives of the Grove Library Project include:

Several innovative technologies and features will be incorporated into the buildings and landscape of this site. The development will tackle key environmental challenges by achieving measurable reductions in energy and water consumption.

A series of sustainable workshops and events, community forums, and school programs will be designed to give participants practical first-hand information on the smart design ideas and lifestyle changes they can incorporate into their own lives.

Annual savings

Water: 1.5 ML   Energy: 193,000 kWh   CO2 emissions: 167 tonnes

ML = Megalitres    kWh = kilowatt hours

The Green Precincts Fund is an Australian Government initiative to prepare Australia for a future with less water and to encourage local communities to better manage their water and energy use for current and future generations.
