Australia's water supply is under increasing demand due to a growing population. The availability of water is diminishing due to the impacts of drought and long term climate change, along with strong competition from multiple users. This has driven a need to use water more thoughtfully. Innovative approaches are required to deal with this issue. Considering water recycling is a strategy that can help us use our water more wisely. This report, A National Snapshot of Current and Planned Water Recycling and Reuse Rates, was commissioned by the Australian Government. It considers key features of water recycling in each state and territory as well as progress towards a national target of 30% of waste water being recycled by 2015 from current and planned water recycling activities.
