The redevelopment of the Woodcroft Community Centre sets a benchmark for contemporary community facilities in Adelaide through its unique combination of eye pleasing aesthetics and impressive, sustainable functionality. In a relatively short time frame, the project team has reinvented the centre into what can only be described as a leading example of ‘green architecture’ and one that will no doubt be used as a case study for other like-minded communities around greater metropolitan Adelaide in the years to come.
The Woodcroft Community Centre redevelopment project is one of 13 projects supported by the Australian Government’s Green Precincts Fund, an initiative to prepare Australia for a future with less water and to encourage local communities to better manage their water and energy use.
This report outlines in detail the key benefits and outcomes that have resulted from the centre’s redevelopment and its desired effect on the community’s attitude towards sustainable living.
It will provide an overview of:
- energy and water saving measures
- community engagement
- project benefits and outcomes
- lessons learnt.
