Alexandrina Council

Funding: $800,000

About the project

The Alexandrina Council is the lead recipient for a consortium of Council's covering the regions of Alexandrina, Eastern Mount Lofty Rnages, Lower River Murray and the Lower Lakes.

The project is to undertake a climate change impact assessment for water security in the area serviced by the Consortium of Councils. The Council's are required to prepare and/or update integrated water management plans for demand and climate change scenarios, and assess the climate change impact on rural land use.

Project benefits

This impact assessment will allow the Councils to ensure they adequately account for the impacts of climate change and the anticipated significant population growth. This will ensure the long term viability of the region, and the region's water resources are well managed into the future.

Project completion

This project was completed in June 2012 and resulted in the production of 3 Integrated Water Management Plans for the Mid Murray, the Murray Mallee and the SAMDB Greater Adelaide regions. In addition the following assessment plans were developed:

  • Integrated Water Management Development Plan Assessment;
  • Alexandrina Rural Areas Development Plan Assessment;
  • Mt Barker Rural Lands Development Plan Assessment; and
  • Mid Murray Sustainable River Murray Development Plan Assessment.
