Forbes Shire Council
About the project
Forbes Shire Council is the lead recipient for a consortium of Council's covering the regions of Forbes, Blayney, Boorowa, Cabonne, Cowra, Harden, Lachlan, Lithgow, Oberon, Orange, Parkes, Weddin, Wellington, Upper Lachlan and Young.
The Central NSW Regional Organisation of Councils will undertake a study into improved water security for the communities of the consortium and identify carbon neutral solutions for water security programming for the region.
This project will address an identified gap in the Centroc Water Security Study by identifying carbon neutral options for water security programming for the region and provide a strategy to reduce greenhouse gas emissions while addressing improved water supply.
This project was completed in March 2012 and resulted in:
- a plan for delivering water security to 2059;
- a communication plan;
- a Regional Drought Management Plan;
- a Regional Workforce Training, Mentoring, Procurement and Resource Sharing Plan; and
- a plan for co-operation between the Centroc Water Utilities' Alliance and the Lower Macquarie Water Utilities' Alliance.
Further information on this project may be obtained by contacting the Forbes Shire Council directly on 02 6850 2300.
The Strengthening Basin Communities program is funded by the Australian Government's Water for the Future initiative.
