Narromine Shire Council
About the project
Narromine Shire Council is the lead recipient for a consortium of Council's covering the regions of Narromine and Warren.
This project will identify and quantify the likely impacts of a future with less water across the Narromine and Warren Shires. The project will also develop adaptation plans for the Councils. Selected indicators will be used to test the resilience of the community to successfully adapt to changes in water availability.
The project will assist the Councils in the Macquarie River catchment plan for a future with reduced water. This will enable these local regions to prosper into the future, whilst reducing their impact on the environment.
This project was completed in November 2011. This project has resulted in the production of a Socio-Economic Study that identifies and quantifies the likely impacts across the Narromine and Warren Local Government Areas of a future with less water; an Adaptation Plan for both Councils; and options for the two Councils to assist the region to meet the challenges presented by climate change and water policy.
Further information on this project may be obtained by contacting the Narromine Shire Council directly on 02 6889 9999.
The Strengthening Basin Communities program is funded by the Australian Government's Water for the Future initiative.
