Finalised Priority Assessment Lists for the National and Commonwealth Heritage Lists

Current assessments for the National Heritage List and Commonwealth Heritage List

Each year, the Australian Government calls for nominations of places with outstanding heritage significance to the nation. The nominations received are considered by the Australian Heritage Council. On Council advice, the Minister for the Environment then decides which places will be assessed for possible inclusion on our list of Australia’s pre-eminent heritage sites. As part of its assessments, the Australian Heritage Council will seek feedback from stakeholders including owners, occupiers and Indigenous people with interests in the nominated places.

About the assessment dates in the Lists

The Finalised Priority Assessment Lists indicate the scheduled dates for the completion of assessments . Under the Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act 1999, the Minister may extend an assessment completion date, superseding the dates in these lists. All assessment extensions are listed in the Public Notices database and can be found by selecting "Extended assessments" in the 'Notice' field. The latest assessment completion dates are given in documents reporting the Minister's extension decision which are linked to the results page.
