Invitation to comment
Commercial exports may be permitted for specimens of native wildlife taken in accordance with the provisions of an approved wildlife trade management plan. The proposed Wildlife Trade Management Plan – Queensland Crocodile Farming 1 November 2018–31 October 2023 has been prepared by the Queensland Department of Environment and Science for consideration as an approved wildlife trade management plan under section 303FO of the Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act 1999 (the Act). It is proposed that the plan will be in force until 31 October 2023.
How can I get involved
In accordance with the provisions of section 303FR of the Act, comments are invited on the proposed management plan. Please submit your written comments by Friday 15 June 2018.

About the management plan
The proposed management plan provides for the sustainable farming of saltwater or estuarine (Crocodylus porosus) and freshwater (C. johnstoni) crocodiles in Queensland. In addition, the proposed plan:
- Details the status of these species under Queensland legislation;
- Seeks to ensure that farming of estuarine and freshwater crocodiles in Queensland does not negatively impact the conservation of these species in the wild;
- Seeks to ensure that crocodiles are humanely treated in accordance with Code of Practice for the Humane Treatment of Wild and Farmed Australian Crocodiles;
- Identifies that the crocodile farming industry in Queensland incorporates the legitimate use of harvested and ranched crocodiles, and crocodile eggs sourced from the Northern Territory; and
- Allows provision for limited take of crocodile eggs from the wild (‘ranching’) in Queensland.
