About the draft management plan

The primary goal of the draft plan is to ensure an ecologically sustainable harvest of kangaroos and wallabies (macropods) and to provide an alternative management option for reducing the damage caused by overabundant macropod species. This will be achieved through the application of the best available scientific knowledge, best practice management and monitoring of outcomes to ensure that the viability of macropod populations is not compromised by any action taken under this plan.

This plan relates only to the commercial harvest of four species within South Australia: Red Kangaroo (Macropus rufus), Western Grey Kangaroo (Macropus fuliginosus), Common Wallaroo or Euro (Macropus robustus) and Tammar Wallaby (Macropus eugenii).
